Wow! It's been a while since I have been able to work on the website. The move happened so fast, then lambing and the holidays were upon us! Time now to take a deep breath and catch up on the news a bit.
Our new Merino ram, Clyde, certainly did a nice job for us. We now have 11 beautiful lambs on the ground . All are black with white stars on their foreheads and white tips on their tails!

I would like to thank everyone for coming by the new shop and supporting us during our Grand Opening. Thanks especially to the Ashe County Chamber of Commerce for our Ribbon Cutting  and Jackie Brown  and the crew out at Creative Food Ventures for  the wonderful food!

If you haven't been into the new shop, you should stop in. It's so bright and roomy! With all the additional space, we have been able to add more yarn, wheels, tools looms ... just all kinds of fun stuff!  Please feel free to come sit by the fireplace in our fiber corner and knit.. or spin.. or just enjoy a nice cup of coffee or tea from our new neighbor Julie, over at the West Jefferson Coffee House. Yummy!

Our Louet dealership is up and running. We now have both the S17 and the extremely portable Victoria in the shop for you to try out, as well as hand cards, combs and the Louet Roving Carder in stock!

We are also carrying a really nice little Charkha in the shop. Built by Bob Elbe in Millers Creek NC, this charka is very portable and easy to use. If you've never spun cotton on a charkha, you are in for a treat. come by and try it out! Our favorite quilter, Doris Phillips, is in the process of making nifty little quilted bags to carry the Elbe Charkha in, they are very roomy with lots of great pockets for fiber.

We have lots of really nice spinning fiber in the shop now,Organic Cotton from New World Textiles of Black Mountain, Silk, Hemp, Flax, Soy and wools from Louet, as well as the locally grown raw wools and alpaca that we have always had.

Tools Tools Tools!  I am so excited! We have lots of new needles and notions in the shop now...bamboo knitting needles and crochet hooks from Chiagoo... our Skacel dealership for Addi needles is on the way... also I am planning to carry some handmade Birch needles from Twin Birch Products in Pittsboro NC real soon! stay tuned.

Speaking of knitting ... We now have a totally awesome selection of natural fiber yarns ... hand painted yarns from Knitfits Yarns and Blue Ridge Yarns ...Handspun yarns by  Christy & Nancy Weaver Hoffman and Jane Plaugher  of Fiber on the Mountain in Deep Gap.

The Appalachian Fiber Artists Guild meets here on Monday nights about 7pm... whether you are already a fiber arts person or would like to be, we would love to meet you!  Come join us !

A bit about the farm and our family

Foxfire Holler Sheep Farm is situated on a high meadow in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Northwestern North Carolina, it has been in our family for 3 generations.... the fourth and fifth are living there now too! Nancy's love for animals combined with her love of the fiber arts, and a desire to be self sufficient, led us to sheep farming, with an emphasis on finewool breeds. We currently have a flock of purebred Rambouillet and Coopworth Rambouillet cross sheep, as well as Christy's herd of percentage Boer and Nubian goats, a few cows, horses, pigs and various poultry.
In the summer of 2006, the products the farm produces, namely yarns and meat, outpaced our ability to market them from just the farm and the Ashe County Farmers Market. The decision was made to open a shop and market our farm products and those of other High Country farmers and artisans. Gosh! I don't know if we knew what we were getting into!  Since opening in Warrensville, NC in October of 2006, and moving up to West Jefferson in November of 2007, we have grown and expanded into a real yarn and fiber shop... carrying local fiber products, spinning wheels and tools for fiber folk... All of our handcrafts are one of a kind creations from right here in the High Country, Homegrown meats, eggs, honey, sorghum molasses, jams, jellies, and the list goes on... all produced naturally to organic standards right here in Ashe County! Coming soon... frozen pies that you can take home and bake, Lon & Carol Coulters goat cheeses... local organic milk and cheese... New things every day!
